Company History:
In 1986 Frank and Perry Remy started the Remy Electric Company, a small residential wiring business. Years later their inventive new products evolved into self starters and generators, and expansion came in 1916 when they became part of the United Motors Corporation. 1927 saw Remy Electric and their competitor DELCO merge to form Declo Remy, then a division of General Motors. Once heavily dependent on GM, Delco Remy purchased back a large portion of the billion dollar business enabling them to supply other OEMs and aftermarket customers, tripling their business.

On August 1 2004 the company changed its name to Remy International Inc. marking the 10th anniversary as a separate company from General Motors Corporation. The company continues to market starters and heavy-duty alternators for original equipment and aftermarket customers under the Delco Remy brand name, which was licensed to the company by General Motors. The company also added the Remy trademark to its brand portfolio for a variety of automotive products in addition to using Remy International Inc. as the new corporate name.
